Every one of us experiences stress from time to time, but according to research, 46 percent of stress is caused in our workplace. Little wonder why there is an increase in coronary disease, chronic fatigue, and other health issues among families. The enormous impact of all of this stress has drawn the attention of the American Institute of Stress, which says stress from the workplace is the number one problem among professional adults.
The Depth Of The Stress Issue
Plenty of research has gone into considering how stress and stress-related disorders affect us and our families. Numerous surveys conducted by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America show that 72 percent of us have to deal with a significant amount of daily stress in our lives, most of which is coming from our jobs. Furthermore, 56 percent of employees surveyed report that stress affects their workplace performance. In effect, this stress is making success at work harder to achieve. To make matters worse, this type of stress doesn’t dissipate on its own.
Do Something About It
Physical activity can be very effective for releasing some of your pent up work stress. According to the Harvard Medical School, “Exercise reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that are the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators.” So, exercising is key to managing and relieving work stress. But how can you fit it into your busy schedule?
Why You Should Join one of the many Adult Leagues
Adult sports leagues give you the opportunity to get out of your house and meet up with some of your friends to play ball in a competitive team. They don’t require too much of a time commitment because they generally have games once a week, after work hours.
An adult sports league can help you get away from the daily grind and work off some stress each week. Check out your local gym or sports complex to see what adult sports leagues they run, find a team to play with, and have fun!
